Let's talk about living room design, specifically, open floor plan living room design. We moved into our current home almost seven years ago, for the longest time, and while our kids were very little, home decor and home design was not at the top of my priorities for our home.
Although having a beautiful and functional is 100% possible, I just didn't have the mental capacity to think about design and I was just comfortable in our newly built home. I think a big part of it was that having an open floor plan gave me so many options that I froze and couldn't make a decision on what I wanted.
I did make the time and effort to make sure that my kids had comfortable and beautiful bedrooms and gave them both a bedroom makeover (you can read more about my daughter's bedroom here and a how I painted her mural here.
But now that the kids are older and we've been living here for a while, I've been thinking a lot about how I was our home to feel. I of course went straight to Pinterest and gathered ideas of the elements I wanted our living room to have.

With all the inspiration in mind, I started to get an idea of what I wanted. At the top of my list were the words "bright", "transitional", and "comfort".
I started working on it last year by replacing our blinds with beautiful woven shades, I added trim to the windows, as well as curtains. I even built a coffee table that I absolutely love! (tutorials/posts to come). Then I put together the mockup above to visualize the rest of the room.
There's still work to do, but little by little I will have the living room of my dreams!
