Not having a fireplace has never really been a concern of mine …except for when Christmas season rolls around and I can’t hang our family’s Christmas stockings.
Luckily, I found the solution a few years ago when I built this blanket ladder, or should I say stocking ladder?
If you don’t have a fireplace/mantel, this is for you!
Not only this was pretty simple to build, but it also was super budget friendly!

The supplies:
I started by cutting my 1x2 boards to the height I wanted. In my case that was roughly 5.5 feet.
I cut the ends at a 30 degree angle so that it would have a stable base when leaning against the wall.
Next, the holes for the dowel rods. I measured and marked the height where I wanted the rods.
I used this forstner bit to make perfect holes. You could also use a spade bit but forstner bits typically make a much cleaner cut.
I marked the bit so that I could drill deep enough to fit the dowels but shallow enough so the dowels wouldn’t stick out.
After making the holes, you’re ready to assemble! I used a glue to put everything together. I rubbed glue on the tip of the dowel and also put some glue in the holes. They should fit tightly, and after the glue the dowels won’t go anywhere.
Now you have a ladder that will display your stockings (or blankets) year after year.
